On Saturday morning 3/27, we rode our bikes over to the bazaar at the Mac Dome. We've heard it's going to be torn down for new construction, so this may be the last bazaar to be held here. Each bazaar is the on-base social event of the season & everyone turns out to see what's for sale from all around Asia. Didn't take any pictures inside the bazaar this year, but we bought a few presents and a few Japanese things for the house.
These are kokeshi dolls. I bought the large one a couple of years ago, but bought the 3 smaller ones this year. They are made only in one area of Japan, and I like to collect the older ones best. Read more by CLICKING RIGHT HERE!
Mask with long string hair. The lady I bought it from said it was for scaring small children. I think it would work!
Old man with white hige (mustache & beard). Can you see his teeth?
They are colored black, which was the style of the day until the Meiji Period in 1870 outlawed the practice. Read more about this custom RIGHT HERE! (but you have to scroll down past all the ads when you get there . . .)
