Biking Around Town 5/8/12

It's a beautiful early May day and we're biking down Hwy 188. Look at this cool tractor that was being "driven" down the sidewalk! How cool is this . . .

We've arrived at our favorite bicycle shop on Hwy 188. Takes us about 25-30 minutes to bike here from our house at MCAS Iwakuni. Out front you can see my beautiful pink bike parked!

Stan's walked over to a nearby vending machine for a bottled water.

Hmmm . . . look what it says on the machine - "Candy Store" . . .

Beautiful house near the bike shop - which is right on a canal.

Inside are ads for VERY expensive bicycles . . .

Lots of bicycles hanging around the shop. I LOVE the wood ceiling in here!

Lots of motorcycles & motorbikes outside.

That's Stan ahead of me - we're biking through a quiet neighborhood. See the huge carp banners flying? That's because Golden Week holidays are coming up soon.

Colorful pansies.

I see MANY of these purple flowers around town right now. The leaves look similar to hosta . . .

Flowers behind houses that face a canal. We're riding along more narrow streets in a pretty neighborhood. It's so peaceful here . . .

Look at that cute bunny in someone's storage building!

Bright colored carnations.

Oh look at this beautiful vine growing up a power pole in someone's yard.

Beautiful flowers on these vines - I'd like to grow these in my yard some day . . .

Inside Dragonfly - our favorite recycle shop. I've been looking for a bowl for Barbara to replace one of her favorites that got broken. This is not the same - but similar.

Hers was this shape and about this size, but had only grapes on the design. This one has grapes, cherries, and pomegranates, I think.

Love these compartmentalized, colorful Japanese fridges!

Now we're biking on Hwy 188 from Dragonfly back toward base. Hey - there's Akiyama up ahead! See the bright yellow sign with red characters to the left & above Stan???

Parking our bicycles out in front of Akiyama, our favorite kuru-kuru - rotating sushi bar - for an early supper. All this biking has made us hungry!

Not crowded today, but our service is always perfect even when it is. Look at the size of those prawn!

The evening crowd will soon be here, but we're a little early today so we can relax and linger.

Flowers outside a business on our way home.

A new business is going in at the lot where the flower nursery used to be, across the street from Yellow Hat on Hwy 188. This large lot has been vacant for months - very unusual, but there was a lot of grading & leveling necessary. This was a very sloped lot. They're building retaining walls so that should take care of the sloping issue!

"Wiener Egg Dog" and "Egg Dog" packaged sandwiches at the 7-11 where Stan likes to stop on our way home. Sometimes he buys lunch for the next day and sometimes I buy my milk coffee. The "egg" stands for egg salad. Hey - don't knock it if you haven't tried it! Delicious . . .

Looking down into someone's back yard near the river - how beautiful!

Irises in bloom!

My favorites . . .

Our shortcut - and that's Stan riding inside the short train tunnel that takes us back to base, alongside the fence.
