JAPAN ADVENTURE

Welcome to Margie & Stan's Japan Adventure - our photo blog while living on MCAS Iwakuni in beautiful Yamaguchi Prefecture in Western Japan from 8/2004 to present. My photo above is the famous Kintai Bridge right here in Iwakuni. Be sure to check out Blog Archive (below left) for highlights of our travels. And leave us a comment - we'd love to hear from you! Fun-Filled Saturday in Iwakuni! 11/19/11

Clouds are hanging low as we drive over a bridge toward downtown. It's a rainy Saturday in mid-November.

After a delicious set lunch at L-Style Cafe near the train station, Stan has "cute" coffee - two bears hugging!

Wow- the design stays even after he's finished . . .

Shopping at Fuji Grand - I'm looking out a window from one of the upper floors to the street below . . .

We're pretty high . . .

Inside the VERY noisy children's game area.

And the New Year's gift area is already set up. Guess what these packages are?!?!?

Beer! Sorry - can't mail to US . . .

Christmas department . . .

And children playing in the toy department.

LOVE this bag!

And an old VW bug displays clothing . . .

Love the training bike with long handle . . . Wait - it's a HUMMER?!?!?!?!?

Bike Department . . .

Later in the day, we're watching Grand Sumo at Monte Beer. That's shin-ozeki (new champion) Kotoshogiku. He was recently promoted to Champion rank - next highest to top rank of Yokosuna (Grand Champion). He's Japanese, so everyone is very excited that perhaps some day in the future there will be a Japanese Grand Champion again. It's been a very long time since that has occurred here in Japan.

I love these cool black crystal chandeliers hanging above us.

We've been joined by friends Akemi and Mayumi, who were Stan's temporary students over the summer. Yum! Look at this beautiful shrimp cocktail . . .

Stan, Akemi and Mayumi outside Monte Beer. After drinks & a few more snacks, we're headed to karaoke!

As we're walking to a nearby karaoke bar, we pass this amazing wall art . . .

How beautiful!

Inside, there are many costumes and props - hmmm . . .

Oh Stan - that's definitely you!

And a schoolgirl costume is just what I may need . . .

Akemi singing.

And Mayumi singing.

And after 2 quick hours, it's time to go. Thanks so much Mayumi and Akemi for such a fun night!
