JAPAN ADVENTURE

Welcome to Margie & Stan's Japan Adventure - our photo blog while living on MCAS Iwakuni in beautiful Yamaguchi Prefecture in Western Japan from 8/2004 to present. My photo above is the famous Kintai Bridge right here in Iwakuni. Be sure to check out Blog Archive (below left) for highlights of our travels. And leave us a comment - we'd love to hear from you! Oh I can't remember what these flowers are called - Stephanie? In her comment (see below) Steph provided me this info: "That appears to be a Chinese lantern, aka physalis alkekengi, or hozuki in Japanese." Thanks!

Signs with neighborhood maps really come in handy, because houses are not numbered sequentially here. I've heard that they're numbered by the year they were built . . . I just know that when we're riding bikes, it feels like we're in a maze!

Carp streamers (koinobori) hang outside someone's house for upcoming Children's Day (part of Golden Week & used to be called Boys' Day). The number of fish are determined by the number of boys in the house. Read more about Golden Week Holidays here!

White iris in bloom.

Beautiful garden in someone's yard.

Natalie: Can you get us three carp flags?

Natalie: We have vegetable seeds that we can grow. Amelia: We can plant all different kinds of food that grow in a garden.
