Welcome to Margie & Stan's Japan Adventure - our photo blog while living on MCAS Iwakuni in beautiful Yamaguchi Prefecture in Western Japan from 8/2004 to present. My photo above is the famous Kintai Bridge right here in Iwakuni. Be sure to check out Blog Archive (below left) for highlights of our travels. And leave us a comment - we'd love to hear from you! Very clear stone marking. Amazing to think that it's 400 years old!

Close up of roof decoration.

Nagoya Castle manhole cover.

Paintings such as this tiger were painted by famous Japanese artists and were originally on sliding doors and alcoves in each room of the palace. Although the palace was destroyed, many paintings were saved. Read more history & see old castle photos CLICK HERE!

Closer view shows that the stones seem to be only stacked, not cemented in place. Amazing craftsmanship!
