JAPAN ADVENTURE

Welcome to Margie & Stan's Japan Adventure - our photo blog while living on MCAS Iwakuni in beautiful Yamaguchi Prefecture in Western Japan from 8/2004 to present. My photo above is the famous Kintai Bridge right here in Iwakuni. Be sure to check out Blog Archive (below left) for highlights of our travels. And leave us a comment - we'd love to hear from you! Taka, our guide, waits for us to gather at the entrance gate. Nagoya Castle is celebrating it's 400th birthday this year.

Dolphin roof decoration.

First glimpse of Nagoya Castle, with one of the towers in the foreground. The castle burned down to the stones, during WWII and has been reconstructed, but the towers are all still completely original. There are trap doors in the towers, so that stones could be dropped on intruders.

As we approach, Nagoya Castle rises majestically above us.

Closer view of one of the famous golden dolphins (real gold!) adorning the roof.
