JAPAN ADVENTURE

Welcome to Margie & Stan's Japan Adventure - our photo blog while living on MCAS Iwakuni in beautiful Yamaguchi Prefecture in Western Japan from 8/2004 to present. My photo above is the famous Kintai Bridge right here in Iwakuni. Be sure to check out Blog Archive (below left) for highlights of our travels. And leave us a comment - we'd love to hear from you! Well, we were able to rent a cabin for the night. Here's the view from inside our cabin -- it's pretty stormy & the sun will be going down soon. . .

Views from our cabin. The waves are really crashing!
Inside our cabin. There's lots of beautiful wood everywhere. Looking across the table into the kitchen & bath area. On top of the small fridge is a rice cooker. See the broom at the end of the bunk bed? Just beyond is the lower concrete entry area, with a different broom to use there.

Hmmm, bunk beds.

Looking toward the windows, we see there's no other furniture in this cabin. Since shoes are taken off just inside the door, Japanese would sit on the floor. Instead, I drag chairs from the table over to the window to enjoy the view. Notice the heater up high on the wall? We never could get it to work and we nearly froze to death in our sleep . . . thank goodness for all the cozy bedding!
This is the sink area. Bath area is to the left & potty area is to the right.

This shows the tub & shower area separated by a glass door. Notice the shower drains through the wood slats. We didn't use them, however, since we had already decided to find a nearby onsen for our bath tonight!

Ah, we're all "moved"in & Stan enjoys a swig from his giant Asahi beer bottle.

We're challenged with 4 bunk beds & decide we'll each take a bottom bunk. It's pretty comfy because we decide to each use 2 futons & 2 comforters to sleep on & 2 blankets on top! Yes, I think this will work . . .

Stan decides to climb down to the beach & takes the camera.
Rocky & mossy beach below our cabin.

Live red coral on these rocks.

Closeups of the rocks Stan is climbing on down on the "beach" near our cabin. I, however, am sitting inside the cabin, near the window with my feet up . . .

Stan found these ropes & nets tangled up to the left of this big rock. He said they reminded him of the "gifts from the sea" that I used to drag home to decorate our yard when we lived in Gulf Shores, AL!

Sign on the outside our cabin door. Notice the small window on & around in the door for light.

Inside, this shows the door to the bathroom area, which held the only framed picture in the cabin.

A closeup shows an interesting picture.
After Stan's beach "walk" & trying to get the heat to work for a while, we decided to drive about 15 minutes to the Tamagawa Onsen for a nice dinner & hot bath. Didn't take the camera, so no pictures, but it was great! There's nothing better than a relaxing onsen on a cold winter night!

Outside our cabin the next morning.

View from our deck. What's that white thing on top of the pole?

It's a clock, for everyone's convenience, of course!

Views from the deck of our cabin at Susa Bay Ecology Campground. We could hear the waves crashing onto the rocks.

One of the larger cabins

Picture sign giving us safety rules & instructions for recycling at the campground. The one with the bucket, says to pour your rice water around the trees. We didn't cook any rice, although that appliance was provided.

This way to the beach? I like these wildflowers on the hillside.

Marina & beautiful homes near the campground.

This man was riding his motorcycle around the marina hanging Japanese flags on each boat.

Driving from the campground on the narrow road that curves along the sea.

Views of the Sea as we drive away from the campground. It's less cloudy today -- pretty nice
& sunny right now.
