And just before Okayama (I think) we turn due South off the Sanyo Expressway from Iwakuni, onto the Shimanami Expressway - a road that links several small islands by way of 9 bridges that lead to the larger Shikoku Island - our destination today. We've always wanted to make this drive & this is a good way to do it - on a large, comfortable tour bus with someone else driving!


Found this map that gives you an idea of where we're going. We drove from the left side on the green road (Sanyo Expw) & then turned south toward all the smaller islands that lead to Shikoku. Here's a link with more info if you're interested. CLICK RIGHT HERE

This town near the sea made me think of Sendai & all the small villages just like this that were wiped out during the March tsunami . . .
