It's Easter Sunday, but it's difficult to stay home on family holidays, so after a few phone calls to children (and grandchildren!) we're heading out. Just outside MCAS Monzen Gate, we see that lotus roots have been dug up.
Iwakuni is famous for its 9-hole lotus root - it's a very big crop here. It's delicious either raw or cooked many different ways, but my favorite is sliced thin & tempura fried.
We've decided to stop for lunch at our favorite sushi-go-round, Akiyama on Hwy 188.
Stan's eating udon - thick white noodles in tasty broth.
"Sushi Sensei" serves a dish. He somehow remembers our favorites . . . yum!
We're heading to Yanai today to celebrate Easter Sunday. We're in our car racing the local train along Hwy 188. The train always wins.
Approaching the huge green Oshima Island Bridge that spans the Seto Inland Sea, as well as Hwy 188. I'm looking through the train's electric power lines that runs near the highway.
