JAPAN ADVENTURE

Welcome to Margie & Stan's Japan Adventure - our photo blog while living on MCAS Iwakuni in beautiful Yamaguchi Prefecture in Western Japan from 8/2004 to present. My photo above is the famous Kintai Bridge right here in Iwakuni. Be sure to check out Blog Archive (below left) for highlights of our travels. And leave us a comment - we'd love to hear from you! Looks like a small stone monument was built on these rocks in the middle of the river?

Looking straight through tunnels . . . there are SO many along highways in Japan - especially in mountainous areas like this.

A fisherman near a spillway in the river.

Local trains go just about everywhere.

Wide new sidewalk & retaining wall being built along this highway that follows the river. No matter where you are in Japan - even if it looks like the "middle of nowhere" there are ALWAYS sidewalks - ALWAYS! And guess what - they're used!

See that little boy in the blue shirt? He crossed the highway from the other side by pushing a button to trigger the light to stop traffic. Then he bowed to his friends before he crossed. After he crossed, he bowed to the traffic in both directions to thank us for stopping and for being inconvenienced. Then he ran along on his way. Alone.

This highway crosses back & forth over the river many times. I remember this bright red bridge.

Inside the red bridge. See the white dotted lines in the highway? They are raised & "sing" if your tires stray out of your lane. Good idea . . .

Oh - this is the last tunnel before Tsuwano. Once we exit the tunnel, our turn onto Hwy 13 that takes us to Tsuwano town is immediately to the right (see the blue sign?). If we kept going (slightly to the left), the road ends up in Yamaguchi City.
