Welcome to Margie & Stan's Japan Adventure - our photo blog while living on MCAS Iwakuni in beautiful Yamaguchi Prefecture in Western Japan from 8/2004 to present. Late July in Iwakuni & Otake 7/25/11

Hooray! Stan's officially out of school for the summer! (summer school ended Friday) so we've headed downtown to the 100 Yen Shop and to L-Style Cafe for lunch on this Monday. Look at that cute car next to a bus.

Inside the 100 Yen, we found this cute little boy and his mom. This hat area is where the shop that sold jewelry, hair accessories, socks & bags used to be & there was a nice lady there we always visited with. Guess she's gone . . . ?

Back out on the street, headed toward L-Style restaurant, which is just past the train station. There's the front of the sunflowers I've been watching grow all summer.

Inside - this is the only place we've eaten that has an all-you-can-eat salad bar with fresh seasonal veggies & homemade dressings on ice. But we only go once - to save room for what's to follow.

Stan is cooling off with mango juice - one of his favorite icy drinks.

Both our salads & iced drinks. Mine is coffee - of course.

Wow! Look at our beautiful seasonal lunch set today! As many times as I've been here over the years, I've never had exactly the same entrees. Each one is a perfect gourmet delight! (Click to zoom in, but arrow back to return to blog)

Our cups of hot, thin, but savory soup have arrived. The choice is between rice or bread, so I always chose the bread - fresh, hot from the oven & rosemary (I think) flavored - yum! Stan's rice is not white today, but has flavorful sauce & veggies mixed in. He said it was delicious!

Stan's at the ice cream counter. Guess we're having dessert . . .

He chose chocolate chip, but mine is orange sherbet, made with Oshima Island oranges - delicious & very refreshing!

Outside L-Style Cafe - near the train station (right behind the entrance to the tunnel that goes under the tracks). I think this is my favorite "lunch set" place to eat! But look! They've added a new vending machine outside.

It's "brick" to match the building - how cute! And of course, it's a Sapporo . . .

Planters on the wide sidewalk between L-Style and the tour bus stop near the station.
