Lights reflected from across the river.
And the lanterns are marching from right end toward the left . . . to the beat of the taiko drums. What an amazing sight!
Those two symbols stand for Yamaguchi Prefecture - the "State" in which we live.
Lanterns are all the way across - wow! They even did some "waves" and other choreographed movements. Very impressive. What a relaxing and fun day.
Back at home now. We bought a lantern, although we were "watchers" not bridge participants. Look how beautiful the drawing is of the Kintai Bridge on this strong Japanese paper. The red stamp at the bottom right is the artist's signature stamp.
Looking inside from the top, you can see the tiny LED light mounted onto the wood frame. They used to use real fire in the lanterns, but this is much safer.
You simply twist the tiny bulb and . . . viola!
