JAPAN ADVENTURE

Welcome to Margie & Stan's Japan Adventure - our photo blog while living on MCAS Iwakuni in beautiful Yamaguchi Prefecture in Western Japan from 8/2004 to present. My photo above is the famous Kintai Bridge right here in Iwakuni. Be sure to check out Blog Archive (below left) for highlights of our travels. And leave us a comment - we'd love to hear from you! After dinner, we decided to walk around town a little to work off our dinner. Fortunately we had our umbrellas since it was still raining. One of my favorite places is the flower shop near the train station, which was only a couple of blocks' walk. Of course, we can pick up a taxi outside the station.

Closer view shows some very cute green planters just a'sittin' on a shelf & dangling' their little feet.

A wall of sunflowers to create shade near the train station. Many people are growing "green shade" in front of businesses & homes this summer in Japan to help conserve power. The flowers are facing the other way & it was raining pretty hard here so I didn't step outside the covered walkway . . .

But here's the back of a tall sunflower . . .

And riding back home in our taxi. It's still light -I LOVE the long days of summer!

The rain all day on the 4th caused the fireworks to be postponed, but on the 5th, the sun shone & no rain! So, around 8 PM, we rode our bikes over to the nearby seawall (on the station) and joined most of MCAS Iwakuni residents & many guests for a fabulous fireworks display. As the sun dropped, it cooled down into the 70s - clearly the coolest fireworks display I've ever experienced! And it started EXACTLY on time at 8:30 . . .

Mom & daughter in yukata - summer kimono. What a great show & such a pleasant night to be outside! But I'm thinking of family & friends back in the US and feeling homesick . . .
