JAPAN ADVENTURE

Welcome to Margie & Stan's Japan Adventure - our photo blog while living on MCAS Iwakuni in beautiful Yamaguchi Prefecture in Western Japan from 8/2004 to present. My photo above is the famous Kintai Bridge right here in Iwakuni. Be sure to check out Blog Archive (below left) for highlights of our travels. And leave us a comment - we'd love to hear from you! What a cool view as we pull away from a station.

In the distance is the huge stadium & park that we visited.

Looking back over the monorail track. What a great way to provide mass transit with minimal loss of landscape below.

A close view of the speedometer shows we're going nearly 60 kph - pretty fast, especially considering we're stopping every minute or two!

Views from the monorail on our return trip back into the heart of Hiroshima.

Notice the little ads hanging on the hand straps. This train was nearly empty today. A friend told me that this monorail train is not ever very crowded because it's mostly used by commuters living out in these neighborhoods, who work or go to school downtown. She liked it when I mentioned the phrase, "bedroom community."

No cellphones or laptops can be used here?

This map shows the route of the monorail. If you click on the picture & look closer, you can read the name of the stops in both Japanese & English. (don't forget to arrow back!) The numbers (1, 2) relate to how many minutes between stops! We rode to the end - Koki-koen-mae & then rode back. Since koen means "park" I knew there had to be a park at the end.

Pictures of the monorail at the top of the stairs as we climb back up to the street. What a surprise to find out that this starts out as a subway & then becomes a monorail! I'm SO glad found out about this! Can't believe we've lived here nearly 7 years & not heard about it before!
