Giant koi (carp) in the canals along the sidewalks in Tsuwano. This is the only place we've visited in Japan where they have this all over town. I read an interesting story that the fish were planted long ago, in case of disaster so the residents would have food, but they have now outnumbered the residents!
White ducks & large koi. The ducks have thoughtfully been provided with a little bench under the bridge on which to rest. Those are iris in the planters, and I've seen pictures of early Spring when they are blooming all over town. We may have to come back then . . .
Walled houses along the main tourist street. I would like to live like this. See the bare tree? That's one of the ginko that was covered with bright yellow leaves just a couple of weeks ago when we were here!
Manhole cover representing Tsuwano. I could not find a painted one though.
It's raining lightly now (I'm riding holding my umbrella - much easier on a 3-wheeler!) and the street is deserted. We're heading off the beaten path . . .
