Our sushi chef is fresh-grating wasabi for us! I love just a little on my sushi, but have never seen it made fresh before. I recently watched a show on growing wasabi , and it's very difficult to grow - conditions must be perfect for perfect wasabi . . . CLICK HERE & scroll down the page to view a short video about growing wasabi in Japan - interesting and beautiful!
Stan had a lunch special set - dark red tuna sashimi on top of a rice bowl, I think. he said it was delicious!
I opted for sushi, and just kept ordering one or two at a time until I was full. Oishi! That's fresh ginger on the left (which I don't really care for) and ebi (steamed shrimp) and maguro (tuna) on the right. Yum!
Behind us, I'm looking through the huge aquarium into a traditional Japanese-style seating area (see the shoes on the floor?) and a small kerosene stove to the left. We're sitting at the sushi bar, which is much easier for us. Of course the fish are not "just" for viewing . . .
Oh yes - that flatfish (flounder) on the bottom is very much alive & just patiently waiting to be "chosen" . . .
