JAPAN ADVENTURE

Welcome to Margie & Stan's Japan Adventure - our photo blog while living on MCAS Iwakuni in beautiful Yamaguchi Prefecture in Western Japan from 8/2004 to present. My photo above is the famous Kintai Bridge right here in Iwakuni. Be sure to check out Blog Archive (below left) for highlights of our travels. And leave us a comment - we'd love to hear from you! Look at all the bunkers to protect us in case of eruption!

Behind Stan is the edge of the volcano. Pretty short walk . . .

Stan & Margie at Mt Aso, Japan. I actually forgot my coat today (oops!) but Stan had an extra flannel shirt. (thanks!) It really wasn't very cold - just VERY windy.

Looking back at the ropeway tram building & parking around. VERY cool that you can actually drive all the way up to this active volcano! This entire Mt Aso crater area (caldera) is 128 km (79.5 miles!) in circumference and 27 km in diameter (16.7 miles)! And it encompasses several villages (totaling over 100,000 people; 650,000 of whom live in the city of Kumamoto, where our hotel is. There are also numerous slopes, brooks (the best spring water in Japan) and some of the richest farmland in all of Japan!

Small shrine at the top.
