"Shirakabe no Machi (Town with white walls)" district of Yanai. Most buildings are from the Edo Period of Japan (1600-1867) and have been beautifully and lovingly restored and maintained. There are many shops that sell local handicrafts, but many are closed today because it's a Japanese holiday (Equinox Day) and the streets are mostly deserted.
Unpainted manhole cover depicting the white wall area.
Look at this beautiful decorative wood entrance gate!
