I took this picture outside the room where Stan was the first day, so I could find it again! 704 was on the second floor ? ? ? As you can see there are 6 beds in this room. but only 3 are occupied . . . it was amazingly quiet though.
Driving down the hill from the hospital toward the JR rail tracks & Hwy 188 just beyond. The Iwakuni Clinical Center (ICC) is located just a few miles south & west of Iwakuni toward Yanai, and overlooks the Seto Inland Sea, so each time I visited him, I drove along the sea until I saw the big white building loom up on the right. Unfortunately, I came down with some sort of really bad cold (or flu) the day after he was admitted, so I didn't visit as often as I wanted to the first week, but he had his cell phone, so we were able to talk on the phone several times a day.
School children walking home in late afternoon are still dressed in their summer uniforms. It's late August, and still VERY hot & humid here in Iwakuni. Japan had it's hottest summer in 113 years - read more about it RIGHT HERE, but don't forget to arrow back to continue reading the blog!
After nearly a week, Stan's looking better, but still on IV antibiotics, although now he can get up to potty and walk around. His second day, he was moved to a different part of the hospital, but still it's a 6-person room. I took him books & crossword puzzles (along with clean clothes), but he mostly slept the first 3 or 4 days when he felt the worst.
That's the entire width of "his" area of this 6-person hospital room. The pink curtain touches the right side of his bed & on the other side another patient's bed. The folding chair is where a visitor sits, while Stan must remain on the bed. A tray where he takes his meals, pulls out of the console next to his bed & he has storage above his bed. It's a very efficient use of space!
