JAPAN ADVENTURE

Welcome to Margie & Stan's Japan Adventure - our photo blog while living on MCAS Iwakuni in beautiful Yamaguchi Prefecture in Western Japan from 8/2004 to present. My photo above is the famous Kintai Bridge right here in Iwakuni. Be sure to check out Blog Archive (below left) for highlights of our travels. And leave us a comment - we'd love to hear from you! A couple of hand-painted screens in a minimalist Edo Period room. Parts of this house were over 300 years old, but the newer parts were "only" about 100 years old. "Old" is a relative term in Japan . . .

Looking up into the second floor windows from inside the house. I did not go up the steep ladder stairs to the bedrooms above.

More beautiful rooms. Rooms are sized by the number of tatami mats they hold. Paper sliding doors can be closed or opened as needed for heat or privacy.

Fresh orchids by a sink.

Mr. Oda shows a family palaquin, for carrying a woman out in public.
