JAPAN ADVENTURE

Welcome to Margie & Stan's Japan Adventure - our photo blog while living on MCAS Iwakuni in beautiful Yamaguchi Prefecture in Western Japan from 8/2004 to present. My photo above is the famous Kintai Bridge right here in Iwakuni. Be sure to check out Blog Archive (below left) for highlights of our travels. And leave us a comment - we'd love to hear from you! I couldn't catch a photo, but each time a batter got a hit, the digital sign here spelled out "Great Hit!" in English where it now says "Mazda Zoom-Zoom"

Excited fans!

Carps batting.

Many Japanese fans wear shirts representing their favorite ballplayer's name & number.

This little girl's hat represents the mascot we saw dancing on field earlier.

This generous boy in our American group (@75 of us) took a large bag of candy down to the fence to share with other children. Nice job!!!

Hmmmmm . . .

No one claps, but hits their plastic bats together -similar sound & doesn't hurt your hands . . .

Hiroshima Carps were begun in 1950 - that's just 5 years after Hiroshima City was vaporized by the atomic bomb ending WWII. For more info, click HERE

You're supposed to buy a long red Carps balloon so you can participate in the uh, Balloon Event . . . But when fully inflated, it turns bright pink. I LOVE the artistic rendition of the carp spelling out "Hiroshima" on these balloons. This is the equivalent of the 7th inning stretch, I think.
