JAPAN ADVENTURE

Welcome to Margie & Stan's Japan Adventure - our photo blog while living on MCAS Iwakuni in beautiful Yamaguchi Prefecture in Western Japan from 8/2004 to present. My photo above is the famous Kintai Bridge right here in Iwakuni. Be sure to check out Blog Archive (below left) for highlights of our travels. And leave us a comment - we'd love to hear from you! The doors are open into the gift & coffee shop, so it must be time for afternoon tea!

Beautiful flowers line the building atop the open small canals. Fresh water runs through here & it makes such a beautiful cooling sound.

Looking down the street in front of the shop where the parade & egret dance was held earlier today - nearly abandoned now as spectators have moved on.

From inside a table at the shop I'm looking out onto the street. A little further to the right is the classic Tsuwano Catholic Church built in 1892 - an unusual sight for Japan. Click RIGHT HERE to read & see more photos about it.

Yum - tiramisu and iced coffee. Perfect on a hot day! Notice the little trays that these are served on? They are woven bamboo, laminated with exquisite Japanese washi paper. And Tsuwano is famous for them.

This time the gift shop had plenty of choices for sale. The last time we came it was only about a month after the Disaster, so there weren't many out. I LOVE these beautiful little trays & bought some ruffled-edged ones for me and a friend.

An orchid plant in a blue & white Japanese planter blooms in a sunny window.

This is a very large shop. To the right is the coffee & dessert bar & there is a restaurant & kitchen where the sweet bean cakes are made fresh.

Back out on the street riding along the open canal with planters perched on top. That's Stan ahead of me. You really have to pay attention here . . .

Are these white geese actually feeding the fish below them???
