JAPAN ADVENTURE

Welcome to Margie & Stan's Japan Adventure - our photo blog while living on MCAS Iwakuni in beautiful Yamaguchi Prefecture in Western Japan from 8/2004 to present. My photo above is the famous Kintai Bridge right here in Iwakuni. Be sure to check out Blog Archive (below left) for highlights of our travels. And leave us a comment - we'd love to hear from you! Bulls-eye! If you click on this photo you can see the arrow as it hits the target! (But arrow back to stay with me on the blog!)

He HIT & BROKE the target! Whoo-hoo!

And now the target is being replaced. Washibara Hachimangu Shrine, where this festival is held, is the very same area where horseback archery was performed in ancient times, with the same ancient rituals.

Closeup shows arrows carried on the rider's back.
