After we biked back to our car, we had a not so nice Christmas surprise - our car battery was dead! (Hmm, Stan apparently left the lights on after the last tunnel & it was VERY cold & windy today!) So after a conversation with the parking attendants, and a VERY cold wait, help finally arrived! (Apparently in Japan, there's no such thing as getting a "jump" start.)
Stan had not been able to figure out where our battery lived (nor did the parking attendant), and it even took the professionals a few minutes to locate it! But after we removed the bikes, and pulled up the carpet in the cargo area - viola! The Battery Compartment was revealed!
The parking attendant and Stan are looking on as the professional charges our battery. I guess this is a much safer option than jumper cables, although it was a pretty expensive lesson for us . . .
It started right up and our rescuer made sure it was charged & would continue to run before he left us. He was relieved to hear that we were driving back to Iwakuni MCAS (about 15 km) so that it would be fully charged when we arrived home. So, after an unexpected delay, Stan reloaded the bikes in the back & we were once again on our way home and it's not yet 5 pm on Christmas Day!
Exciting & satisfying two days away. But it's early Christmas morning in the US when we arrive home, so we can open our presents & then call our families & see how Christmas is going there!
