There was a different organist on this night, but we didn't know why until we returned to Japan and discovered that the long-time organist Cecil Whitmire had died. What a terrible loss, but what an influence he had for so many years at the fabulous Alabama Theater! Take a look at this page about this Mighty Wurlitzer and even listen to it play (my favorite is "Stars Fell on Alabama". . . RIGHT HERE!
Looking up from our seats on the first floor to balconies above us.
Oh - it's Intermission and Sing-along time!
A fun time at the theater, but they might want to think about updating the song list a bit. I'm afraid many of the younger attendees were just not familiar with this VERY old music . . . But I believe they're trying to retain the feel from the 1920's when this theater first opened.
I love being downtown Birmingham! Read more about the fabulous Alabama Theater HERE! My pictures REALLY don't do it justice, but you can take a tour & get better photos as well as interesting info HERE as well. One more view from the street as we leave. The sign changes colors . . . did you notice?
The movie was wonderful and we really didn't realize we were watching it for more than 4 hours! What's really fun is that the AT audience "participates" during some of the outrageous dialogue - which just enhances the overall experience!
