Closer view of my tiger - I love the frame, too!
This yaezakura (cherry blossom with more than 5 petals) was a VERY long project for me. I started it last March (2009) but didn't finish it until recently. Of course I was out of the country for 3 months last summer, but still . . . There are many varieties of cherry blossoms, and this is one of my favorites & blooms later than the others, with leaves. Closer view. These may look like watercolor paintings, but it's really made from tiny pieces of exquisite washi paper torn & glued in layers . . . a true lesson in patience for this American!
And here's a purple thistle.
Each tiny strip of this petal is made by tearing a thin piece of washi paper, moistening with glue & then stretching and rolling to the appropriate length & thickness - very time-consuming, but very realistic, don't you think?
