JAPAN ADVENTURE

Welcome to Margie & Stan's Japan Adventure - our photo blog while living on MCAS Iwakuni in beautiful Yamaguchi Prefecture in Western Japan from 8/2004 to present. My photo above is the famous Kintai Bridge right here in Iwakuni. Be sure to check out Blog Archive (below left) for highlights of our travels. And leave us a comment - we'd love to hear from you! Closer view of the plum. I'm working on this project now, but it's going to take me months to complete! Maybe I'll get it done before next February when the ume (plum) bloom . . .

Sensei Fujii-san also surprised Ingrid with a small cherry blossom picture she made for her. Ingrid's Japanese name is Sakura, which means cherry blossom.

Look at the beautiful detail. This style of chigerie looks like watercolor paintings, but they're made from very thin pieces of paper layered to add depth and color. Pieces are torn, not cut so they blend more smoothly. Very tedious, but beautiful results!

Another beautiful hand-made gift from Nakahara-san.

Closer view shows it's made from origami - beautiful!
