JAPAN ADVENTURE

Welcome to Margie & Stan's Japan Adventure - our photo blog while living on MCAS Iwakuni in beautiful Yamaguchi Prefecture in Western Japan from 8/2004 to present. My photo above is the famous Kintai Bridge right here in Iwakuni. Be sure to check out Blog Archive (below left) for highlights of our travels. And leave us a comment - we'd love to hear from you! The fire under this cast-iron pot has been lit & is heating the broth that will cook our meat & veggies for shabu-shabu nabe. Read more HERE!

This next dish has a maple-leaf shaped goody - I think made of fish paste? The bright green is one perfect soy bean, and notice the orange Torii gate? It's cut out of a carrot!

I can't remember what was inside this leaf wrap (something like a piece of sushi, I think), but it's held together at the top with a split sliver of bamboo. How clever!

Two perfect kaki furai (fried oysters) and a couple of small sweet grilled sweet potato pieces. That's an oyster shell, lemon wedge, and red & green pepper decorating the plate, along with sauce.
