JAPAN ADVENTURE

Welcome to Margie & Stan's Japan Adventure - our photo blog while living on MCAS Iwakuni in beautiful Yamaguchi Prefecture in Western Japan from 8/2004 to present. My photo above is the famous Kintai Bridge right here in Iwakuni. Be sure to check out Blog Archive (below left) for highlights of our travels. And leave us a comment - we'd love to hear from you! Aki Basho (Autumn Sumo Tournament)

Grand champions Hakuho on the left and Asashoryu on the right. Hakuho has lost one match during this tournament, and Asashoryu is undefeated. Both are from Mongolia.

Almost ready to begin. They're both giving each other the "evil eye."

Hakuho beat his opponent easily, which made them tied 14-1. Now they get to stretch and/or rest about 10 minutes before the playoff begins.

But Asashoryu won in the playoff to win the September tournament. Fans of Hakuho (me!) were disappointed, because he works so much harder, but there's always the next one in November! At the end, excited fans throw their floor cushions -- a Japanese friend told us this can show pleasure or displeasure!
