JAPAN ADVENTURE

Welcome to Margie & Stan's Japan Adventure - our photo blog while living on MCAS Iwakuni in beautiful Yamaguchi Prefecture in Western Japan from 8/2004 to present. My photo above is the famous Kintai Bridge right here in Iwakuni. Be sure to check out Blog Archive (below left) for highlights of our travels. And leave us a comment - we'd love to hear from you! Sumo!

The Japanese November Grand Sumo Tournament started recently. Thank goodness -- it came just in time to fill the void left by election withdrawal! So every afternoon from 4 to 6 --I'm rooted in front of the TV for sumo with English translation. After being an avid fan for nearly 4 years, we've decided to attend in person on the final day, Sunday, November 23 in Fukuoka (Kyushu Island) & we're very excited! Below is a glimpse of sumo on TV, but watch this space soon for some "real" photos. We're paying around $100 each for our bus ride & ticket to the event, but I'm told the "prime" seats -- down front (where you could actually get squished!) cost $1000 for one day! And when we watch sumo on TV, we sometimes see the same faces in the crowd for the entire 15-day event . . .
