A closer view shows the direction we're headed (toward Hakata). Car 3 (the car in front of us) has a Smoking Room -- this is something new this summer. Previously, the whole car would have been a Smoking car & when the doors open, the smoke was spread throughout the train, so this is a HUGE improvement! The sign also shows that there are restrooms & a trash receptacle at the back of Car 3 (closest to our car), vending machines are in Car 6, and the train crew are in Car 8.
The final leg of our trip (from Hiroshima to Iwakuni on the Shinkansen) is so short (only about 15 min) that we just keep our bags nearby instead of putting them up above us. We're bringing back more than we took!
