JAPAN ADVENTURE

Welcome to Margie & Stan's Japan Adventure - our photo blog while living on MCAS Iwakuni in beautiful Yamaguchi Prefecture in Western Japan from 8/2004 to present. My photo above is the famous Kintai Bridge right here in Iwakuni. Be sure to check out Blog Archive (below left) for highlights of our travels. And leave us a comment - we'd love to hear from you! Statues, memorabilia & signs in & around Oatman . . . (This group was split into two months. Be sure to check out Sept 2007 to see the first half, when they become archived & separated.)

While we were eating lunch, the marshall regales us with stories of Oatman, AZ.

Sherri & David
Stan yoking around . . .
Upstairs in this little hotel, was the "suite" where Clark Gable and Carol Lombard spent their honeymoon, while he was here making a movie. We were told by the town sheriff that this town originally began as a movie set ~ not actually a real town, but now it's thriving as a tourist attraction.

Holly & Sherri & "friend"

Kelly loved this!
Even though it's not yet July, it's PLENTY hot enough today to fry eggs . . .

Heather & Kipp

Grandma Margie & a very content Cody.

David & Sherri
Holly & Kelly enjoy a refreshing ice cream.

Grampa Stan is content ~ he's finished his.

Kelly & Holly were especially fascinated by the "wild" burros that roamed this little "ghost" town.

Wide open spaces as we depart Oatman, along the "Original" Route 66. It was very hot, but a beautiful drive & lots of fun! On the way back to Kingman, we went through Bullhead City, where it was 122 F today!

Sunday Brunch in the Hualapai Mountains

It's much cooler up here in the Hualapai (Wall-a-pie) mountains & the deer & elk are very tame. This is just a short drive ~ pretty much straight up from Kingman . . .

Scenes inside the restaurant for Sunday Brunch. Although it's a bit of a drive, it's well worth it to eat at this great place at the top of the mountain near Kingman.

Cody & Sherri

A small deer outside the restaurant.

Grandma talks to Cody & he seems very interested.
Signs around Kingman . . .

Back at the Crowls, it's our last night before leaving. Kelly set the table & she's ready to eat!

Look at this yummy BBQ chicken Kipp cooked!

. . . and garlic French bread.
Yum ~ our last dinner in Kingman was a joint effort. Everyone fixed their special dishes & everything was delicious! The tomatoes were home-grown from Kipp's garden! Look at Holly's zucchini boats & grilled asparagus, and Sherri's delicious spinach & strawberry salad. You'll have to ask her what she calls it . . .

Cody & Kelly model their souvenir hats that we sent from our trip to China.

Can't believe we've been in AZ for two weeks & it's time to leave. (Thanks Heather & Kipp for a great visit!) Instead of flying back via Great Lakes Airlines from Kingman to Phoenix (way too bumpy & scary!) and then on to Birmingham, we've opted to join Holly, Sherri & David on their drive back to the Las Vegas airport, where we've arranged to fly SW directly to Birmingham. Whew!

Interesting statue on Hoover Dam. Maybe the next time we're out this way, the new bypass road will be finished. It will save lots of time for those who are not stopping to tour the dam.

June 16 ~ Leaving Japan for our Summer US Trip!

We're in a taxi leaving the base ~ we're on our way!

Going over a bridge in Iwakuni -- they're making progress on the new bridge.

Passing the Kintai the last time for a while. I'm very excited to see family & friends in the US, but I'm also sad to be leaving Japan for such a long trip this year. Because of my TKR surgery, I won't be back until the end of September, although Stan will return in August.
