JAPAN ADVENTURE

Welcome to Margie & Stan's Japan Adventure - our photo blog while living on MCAS Iwakuni in beautiful Yamaguchi Prefecture in Western Japan from 8/2004 to present. My photo above is the famous Kintai Bridge right here in Iwakuni. Be sure to check out Blog Archive (below left) for highlights of our travels. And leave us a comment - we'd love to hear from you! Different views of the Itsukushima Shrine, founded in 593 and dedicated to the 3 daughters of Susano-o-Mikoto, the Shinto god of the moon and ocean.

Before entering this sacred place, worshippers purify their hands by dipping a bamboo ladle in the cold spring water and let it run through their fingers to cleanse their physical and emotional being.

This is where you clap to get the gods attention before you pray.

We came here first, because the tide is in right now and this makes the Shrine even more beautiful. Later, the tide will be out and it will look very different!
