Welcome to Margie & Stan's Japan Adventure - our photo blog while living on MCAS Iwakuni in beautiful Yamaguchi Prefecture in Western Japan from 8/2004 to present. My photo above is the famous Kintai Bridge right here in Iwakuni. Be sure to check out Blog Archive (below left) for highlights of our travels. And leave us a comment - we'd love to hear from you! This plaque explains the history of the stone wall. It was built Chinese-style and surrounds the school site, over 837 yards long. In cross-section, it is horeshoe-shaped, and 6 feet 7 inches both in height and width. I'm not sure how old this wall is, but the school was completed in 1670. It is said it is so well built, that no weed has ever grown in between the stones.
