Iwakuni Port Firework Festival 7/23/11

Summer in Japan means - among other things - FIREWORKS! Saturday night we had the choice of riding the train to Hiroshima Port for 10,000 fireworks or riding a bus to Iwakuni Port for 2,000 fireworks. Since we were planning to spend most of the day Sunday outdoors at the Kintai Bridge Lantern Festival , we opted to stay home Saturday. At shortly after 8 PM, we were watching a movie when I noticed flashing lights coming from the balcony glass wall. Yippee! We had a perfect view of Iwakuni Port and the fireworks had already begun. Although this one was small - "only" 2,000 fireworks, it was fabulous and went on until just after 9 PM. We simply opened out balcony glass doors (it was pretty cool by now - around 75F) - and sipped our refreshing beverages while enjoying the show . . . Here's some highlights:

This really doesn't do it justice. The Grand Finale lasted about 10 minutes & the entire sky toward the port area was lit up. Sugoi! (Amazing!)

I cannot even imagine how long 10, 000 fireworks would last. Sounds like you had great seats for Iwakuni Port.

  2. Actually, most fireworks shows in Japan are much larger! Amazing . . .
