Atlanta's Olympic Park

We've crossed the street from CNN & are walking into the Olympic Park Area. This is where the 1996 Summer Olympics were held.

Sherri told me they had a tornado in the last year or so & some of the windows were blown out of this cylindrical building. When they tried to replace the windows to match the originals, they were no longer available in the same color, so they're going to replace ALL of the existing windows . . .

All the bricks paving the park have names of people or organizations who purchased them. There must be millions of them in this large park!

It's a hot day, so lots of people playing in the water.

There's the Japanese flag.

Look at the pretty cement design in the brick walkway.
There's the Olympic flag!

Some of the flags from countries that participated in the Atlanta 1996 Olympics, circle a fountain.

Here comes the water show!

Grand Finale!

Watch this video!

Part of the water show coordinated with music . . . (works better if you let it load first, then watch)

More flags with the CNN building behind.

Can you see the black birds bathing?

These pink crape myrtle petals in a pond remind me of cherry blossoms.
Walking along this cool rock pond area.

"Growing Green" -- great idea!

I love the tile patterns under the water!

Look at this fabulous sculpture!

David & Sherri become part of the art . .
Look at this detail. The statues go all the way through to both sides!

Still following this rock-filled stream. Kinda reminds me of Japan . . .

Look at this very cool children's playground.

A map of this area. It's a very large park right here in the middle of Atlanta.

Margie & Sherri sitting on the edge of a pond.
David makes a face, as Sherri smiles for me!

Sherri found this -- see the "Brad Pitt" brick in the middle?

We're driving around downtown now. I love this building!

I love the decorative detail at the top of this building.

Oh, there's another "Vortex" restaurant downtown. I've been to the funky one in the Five Points area.

That's the Fox Theater -- looks like a show has just ended.

Well, Lucy & I are just exhausted & she's become my new best friend! What a great time I had in Atlanta. Thanks Sherri & David for such a good time . . .

Mamma Mia Girls' Night

The next night after I returned to Birmingham from Arizona, a group of us girls are at Cheryl's to watch (and sing!) her sing-along version of Mamma Mia. Although we've all seen it before (actually together last year at a Birmingham movie theater), it's such a feel-good movie, so we can't wait to get started & watch it again. But first, we're going to eat pizza . . . Yum!

This is the first time I've seen Cheryl's newly decorated LR, DR & MBA. Can't believe I didn't get pictures of the fabulous bath!

Sue's picked out the chair she wants to watch the movie from . . .
Cheryl and Dottie in Cheryl's huge den.

Mark was our waiter for our pizza dinner, but then he left to let us enjoy our Girls' Night In.

Margaret arrives . . .

I LOVE these glamorous pictures of Cheryl! I want someone to make me look this good and classy . . .
Thanks Cheryl for dinner & a great evening!

Seafood Buffet & Theater

Then the next night (Saturday 7/11), a group of us headed down to Prattville for a restaurant that Carol & Ken knew about. It's name is "Fantail" and it's so extremely popular, that you have to arrive when it opens to avoid the crowds!

Don & Mary Linda

I liked these signs posted near the food tables . . .

Just SOME of the food choices -- there were at least 3 more tables like this with more options . . . but I was hungry, so I put my camera away.
This place is HUGE and very popular.

Yum! From the top, clockwise: hush puppies, fried shrimp, fried oysters, couple fries, fried okra, green beans (probably my only healthy choice!) and a bowl of cole slaw off to the right. It was DELICIOUS and very fresh . . .

Oh -- this is my "healthy fruit serving" - frozen margaritas were on "special" . . .

Ken & Carol

Interesting empty container that I found interesting as we waddled out . . .
